WILLIAM PATERSON HANDS CSI PAIR OF LOSSES

MEET RESULTS - The College of Staten Island men's and women's swimming and diving programs fell this evening in Wayne, NJ, losing a non-conference contest to William Paterson University.  On the men's side the Pioneers prevailed 125-95, and on the women's front, WPU cruised to a 118-61 win.  Both CSI teams fell to 1-2 overall with the loss.  The Pioneers women lifted to 2-1, while the men improved to 3-2.

On the men's side, CSI accumulated four first-place finishes on the evening.  They started the race with a win in the 200-yard Medley Relay.  The foursome of Tim Sweeney Derek Villa, Roberto Hidalgo and Nick Defonte scored the win by almost 19 seconds, coming in at 1:45.98.

From there, however, CSI settled for a few second place finishes, as WPU took the lead.  Sweeney responded for CSI with a first-place showing in the 200-yard Individual Medley, beating the field by over 10 seconds.  Later, Sweeney would add another win in the 100-yard Butterfly, scoring a great time of 53.28.

CSI's Derek Villa posted a win in the 100-yard Freestyle, beating his own teammate Defonte by just 0.06 seconds.  Ayman El Haddad finished just three points shy of taking gold on the three-meter platform and Hidalgo posted an impressive second-place run in the 100-yard Breaststroke.

On the women's side, WPU took control of the get-go by placing one-two in the 200-yard Medley Relay to kick off the meet.  Samantha Escobedo turned in a nice run in the 200-yard Individual Medley, placing second with a time of 2:35.36.  Later, she would score second again in the 100-yard Backstroke.  Naomi Gaggi turned in a second-place performance in the 100-yard Breaststroke and also placed third in 100-yard Freestyle.

CSI is next in action on Friday, when they travel to face Pace University at 6pm.
