MEN STAY UNDEFEATED WHILE WOMEN SUFFER THEIR FIRST LOSS TO WILLIAM PATERSON, 123-114, 144-80

The College of Staten Island men's and women's swimming & diving squads took to the pool tonight against William Paterson University at the CSI Sports & Recreation Center. Both the men and the women came in undefeated, the women, 2-0 and the men 1-0, and the men came out of the other side of the meet 2-0 while the women fell to 2-1.

The women opened up the meet with an impressive win in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:04.92. The men were able to follow up the women's performance with a first place finish of their own. Alicia Defonte picked up a second place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle followed up by a first place finish by Derek Villa with a time of 10:44.87.

Tim Sweeney continued his dominance tonight and went on to break two CSI pool records.  It began in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.54 which broke the old record of 21.93. Jude Nicholson and Adil El Haddad extended the Dolphins' lead with superb performances on the planks.  Nicholson placed first on the one-meter diving with a score of 186.50 with El Haddad backing him up with 180.70.

Ewa Wojciechowska did her best to help keep the meet close for the women with an outstanding race in the 100 yard freestyle, coming in a full two seconds before the next racer. Samantha Escobedo nearly gave the Dolphins a first place finish in the 100 yard backstroke however, she came up short and finished in second place.  Sweeney continued his dominant senior season with yet another pool record breaking performance, placing first with a time of 52.91 in the 100 yard backstroke, which broke the old record of 53.11 set in the 2015-16 season.

With the men's side of the meet staying within just 10 points of one another, Derek Villa swam a big 500 yard freestyle to give the men 9 points. El Haddad sealed the deal for the men with a first place finish in the three-meter diving to keep the men undefeated on the season.

The men would go on to win the meet 123-114 while the women would fall 144-80 and suffer their first loss of the season.

CSI returns to action on Saturday, November 12 at 12:00 pm where they will travel to Montclair State for another non-conference meet.
