CSI TENNIS MOVES PAST BROOKLYN IN CUNYAC PLAY

The College of Staten Island men's tennis team got a great start as part of doubles play to help secure a 6-3 win over visiting Brooklyn College as part of CUNYAC play at the CSI Tennis Center this afternoon.  The win improved CSI to 5-6 overall and 3-2 within the CUNYAC, while the Bulldogs fell to 3-6, 3-3, respectively.

The Dolphins got off to a great start as part of doubles play as all three duos looked sharp from start to finish.  The No. 3 team was first off the courts with a big 8-1 win, thanks to the team of Mitchel Voloshin and Tony Francis.  Just moments later, CSI's No. 2 pair of Andrew Adia and Brandon Nickel scored a big, 8-2 win over Adam Zauderer and Eved Modek.

It took a big more tie, but the CSI top unit of Chris Pinto and Matthew Vesci broke up a 3-3 tie to score five straight points to win their flight, 8-3.  That got CSI off to a gaping, 3-0 lead that they were then able to ride to a victory, thanks to a split of singles matches.

In all three CSI wins in singles, CSI allowed just four points against.  At No. 2 Vesci was sensational in a 6-0, 6-4, winner over Albert Benjamin, and Francis at No. 5, was sparkling in a 6-3, 6-1, decision over Gabriel Pariente.  Mohamed El Sayed, who did not play doubles, was very consistent in a 6-2, 6-2, win over Kevin Gyrka.

CSI will be back in action on Wednesday, taking on John Jay College in Wayne, NJ, for a conference match at 4pm.
