DOLPHINS BLOW BY JOHN JAY IN CUNYAC OPENER, 104-41

In what marked the 100th career victory for Head Coach Tim Shanahan, the College of Staten Island skated by John Jay College on the road in what was the CUNYAC opener for both teams, 104-41.  The Dolphins won for the third straight time and improved to 5-1 overall, while the Bloodhounds fell to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in CUNYAC play.

The Dolphins dominated the contest from start to finish, exploding to a 9-4 start on three three-pointers, two by senior Victoria Crea.  After a three by JJC cut the lead to two, CSI then answered with a numbing 24-0 run that essentially sealed the game in the first quarter.  Samantha Flecker notched three buckets in the run, including a three-pointer.  A final lay-up by Diana Todaro secured a 35-12 end of first-quarter advantage, negating a Dana Nicholson three.

In the second frame, CSI started by surrendering another three, but then followed with a 15-0 run over four minutes, spearheaded by a five-point spurt by Brianna Robisky.  CSI would go up by 40, 56-16, with under three to play in the half thanks to a pair of Daniela Zirpolo free-throws, and CSI later took a 68-20 lead into the locker room, well on their way to their third-straight win.

CSI continued their torrid shooting in the second half, connecting on 16-of-30 shots, with Christina Pasaturo leading the way with 12 points in the half.  The Dolphins out-scored JJC, 20-6, in the third quarter, and finished by out-scoring JJC a bit more modestly in the fourth frame, 16-15.

Pasaturo would end up leading the way with 21 total points, adding seven rebounds.  Crea added 14 points while Zirpolo and Robisky both finalized with 12 points off of the bench.  JJC was led by Kaitlyn Koehler's 14 points.  CSI finished with a whopping lead in forced turnovers, getting 32 to their own 10.

The win marked the 100th for Head Coach Tim Shanahan, who is in his sixth season with CSI, having recently led the Dolphins to their first CUNYAC title since 2005.

The Dolphins will next be in action on Tuesday, when they travel to York College for another CUNYAC test.
