Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS BLOW PAST JOHN JAY TO GET BACK IN WIN COLUMN

The College of Staten Island women's basketball team raced out to a huge early lead and never looked back, ultimately scoring a 68-26 win over visiting John Jay College at The Tank in Staten Island, NY.  The win put CSI back in the win column, improving the team to 14-3 overall and 8-1 in conference play, while John Jay fell to 1-16, 1-8, respectively.

The teams traded baskets in their first two possessions, and after that, it was all CSI, as they would go on a 28-0 run to turn the lights out on the Bloodhounds, with 23 of those points coming in the first quarter.

Christina Pasaturo started the run with a transition lay-up after a turnover, part of 17 first quarter points for the senior.  Victoria Crea would add a three and Samantha Flecker popped in a pair of lay-ups as CSI forced the Bloodhounds into a whopping 16 first quarter turnovers.

After a three by Dana Nicholson made it 31-5, CSI went on a 9-0 run fueled by baskets by reserves Rosa Perone, Elena Demontreux and Nicole Imbesi.  By the half, CSI would take a 47-12 lead into the lockers, all but sealing the game by the midway point.

With their starters in the game to start the second half, CSI ballooned the lead to as many as 48 in the third thanks to a couple of Crea lay-ups, the second one part of a three-point play.  With reserves again flowing into the game, CSI slowed down the pace and were out-scored by a modest, 8-7, margin in the final 10 to result in the 68-26 final.

Pasaturo would lead all scorers with 27 points adding a team-high eight rebounds.  Flecker and Crea would add points each while Flecker added four rebounds and Crea four steals.  Nicholson was the Bloodhounds' leader with 14 points, while Kaitlin Koehler knocked in four points with 10 rebounds.  For the game, CSI owned a 50-36 edge in rebounds and forced 25 JJC turnovers, finishing a +14 in that category.

CSI is next in action on Wednesday, January 24, when they stay at home to take on Baruch College at 5:30pm.
