Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island women's basketball team extended their win streak to four with the 101-62 win over York College this afternoon at The Tank. The Dolphins improved to 17-3, 11-1 while the Cardinals dropped to 5-14, 3-9.
Christina Pasaturo once again led the charge for the Dolphins, dropping 21 points against the Cardinals while shooting 75% from the floor and 75% from downtown.
Samantha Flecker was active on both sides of the ball this afternoon, tallying 13 points, eight rebounds (6 defensive), four assists and five steals. Also getting in on the mix was freshman guard
Megan McEwan who scored a career-high 11 points and five assists.
The Dolphins didn't waste any time to start the game as they came out and dominated from the start. After the Cardinals came out and scored the opening basket,
Victoria Crea cashed in on her own steal to knot the game up at two.
Diana Todaro followed that play up with a quick steal down on her side of the court. Crea would then dish the ball to a wide-open Pasaturo who would drain the open three.
Staten Island would rip off a 19-0 run throughout the first quarter as their quick offense was able to manipulate York's defense to get open looks. The women made no mistake to convert their chances which allowed them to jump out to a large lead.
Lina Bitar drained a baseline jumper to put the Dolphins up 28 before the end of the first quarter.
Brianna Robisky would add to that lead when she entered the game in the second quarter, banking her shot off of the glass on a pass from
Nicole Imbesi. Back-to-back three's by
Eltina Vojka and
Daniela Zirpolo would shoot the Dolphins lead up to 37 with two minutes to go in the second quarter.
At the half, the Dolphins led 59-20 and dominated inside, scoring 32 of their 59 points from inside the paint.
The third quarter saw more fast-paced offense by the Dolphins bumping their lead up to 49 before the reserves were called in to finish the game.
Elena Demontreux was a beneficiary of the extra minutes, scoring a career-high 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range. Vojka also scored a career-high seven points in the win over York.
In the end, it was business as usual for the Dolphins as they cruised past York College for the 16th straight time. The 101 points were also the highest output against York College all-time and the second highest point total of the season.
The Dolphins will now look ahead to Medgar Evers who they host on Tuesday, January 30 at 5:30 pm at The Tank in Staten Island, NY.
