The College of Staten Island women's tennis team fell for the fourth-straight time this season, succumbing on their home courts to visiting Brooklyn College, 7-2, as part of CUNYAC play. CSI fell to 1-4 overall and 0-4 inside of the CUNYAC, while the Bulldogs improved their records to 9-1, 3-0, respectively.
It was a tough go of it for the Dolphins, who could only muster up a win after doubles and then one more as part of singles play. CSI fell behind early, 2-0, as the Brooklyn team of Georgeen Belrose and Rosa Aksanov got through CSI's
Hannah Bruschi and
Katherine Villarroel, 8-0. One flight up at No. 1, Ievgeniia Kostenko and Shannel Johnson, were able to break away late for an 8-3 win.
The last to come off of the doubles courts were the teams at No. 3, and there CSI was dominant. The team of senior
Guetanie Romain and freshman
Lorianna Fernandez did the honors for CSI, striking down Elizaveta Meshkalova and Hira Nasir, 8-2.
All singles matches were won in straight sets from there on in and Brooklyn looked sharp at the top and bottom of the order. The lone Brooklyn blemish came at No. 4, where CSI's
Mariah DeGuia was very efficient in a 6-2, 6-1, win over Johnson.
The Dolphins will now have to wait to try and right the ship until Saturday, when they face off against York College as part of continued CUNYAC play.
