DOLPHINS SUFFER FIRST LOSS OF SEASON TO MISERICORDIA

Staten Island, NY | Megan McEwan once again led the Dolphins in scoring but for the first time this season, it wasn't enough as Staten Island suffered their first loss, 70-56. Misericordia remains unbeaten as they move to 4-0 with the win while the Dolphins drop to 3-1.

Japriya Carroll was effective early on for the Cougars. Carroll came into the game as Misericordia's deep threat and put that on display early and often. Carroll scored 9 of her 19 points in the opening stanza, all from behind the arc. The Dolphins were able to hang around due to the inside presence of two-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, Kayla Schmitter.
Staten Island went into the second quarter down 15 but was able to battle back in the second quarter. CSI used a 15-6 run late in the second quarter to cut the lead down to just eight heading into the half. Megan McEwan led the way with a 3-point bucket followed by a layup up. McEwan got assistance from Jacqueline Cali and Vassageia Watson to help keep the Dolphins in the game. Over the final four minutes of the quarter, the Dolphins suffocated the Cougars' attack, holding them to just two points.

Diana Todaro kept the momentum rolling for the Dolphins out of the half by converting a layup to cut the lead down to six. Rachel Carmody didn't allow that to last very long as she was able to find an opening in the paint for an easy layup thanks to Jordan Barth's pass. After a promising second quarter, the Dolphins managed just eight points in the third, falling behind the Cougars by the second largest margin of the game, 16.

Down 16, the Dolphins were never able to gain traction and go on a run to get back in the game. Staten Island was unable to defeat Misericordia in the first ever meeting between these programs and the Dolphins will now look ahead to Tuesday, November 27 where they will take on Mount St. Mary in Newburgh, NY.
