Flushing, NY | The College of Staten Island women's tennis team fell for the second time in as many matches, dropping another as part of CUNYAC play, 8-1, at the hands of Baruch College at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. CSI fell to 1-2 overall and 0-2 within the conference while Baruch advanced to 2-1, 2-1, respectively.
The Bearcats were in control from start to finish in this one, controlling play beginning in doubles. BC's team at Nos. 1-2 were both 8-1 winners with the pair of Lejla Redzematovic and Natalie Ibelhaupt taking the No. 2 flight over CSI's
Tristiana Adragna and
Lorianna Fernandez, and the No. 1 team of Grace Graham and Lauren Kraker defeating Katherine Vallarroel and
Iris Cule.
CSI pose a threat in the No. 3 position, but in the end it was BC's Regina Avrutis and Elizabeth Mak hanging on for an 8-4 win over CSI's
Hannah Bruschi and
Mariah DeGuia.
Graham was able to score a 6-2, 6-0, win at the No. 1 position over Adragna to inch Baruch closer, and moments later, Kraker was able to defeat Bruschi by the same scores to ice the match.
Finishing up the match with it already in-hand to the Bearcats, CSi was able to take it's lone set at No. 4, with DeGuia defeating Avrutis, 6-4, 6-3. Baruch was able to finish strong, however, as Redzematovic scored a 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 win over Villarroel at No. 3, followed by a win by Ibelhaupt over
Guetanie Romain at No. 5, 6-4, 6-2. Wrapping things up, Kaitlyn Rivera was able to win a three-set war with CSI's Fernandez, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6.
