Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

DOLPHINS SEE STREAK END AT HANDS OF PIONEERS, 5-1

Wayne, NJ | The College of Staten Island women's soccer team saw their five-game win streak put to a halt today, as they fell to William Paterson University as part of non-conference play by a 5-1 count this evening.  CSI slipped to 5-3 overall, while the Pioneers advanced to 4-5, winning their third-straight after a 1-5 start.

Despite the lop-sided final score, it was CSI that tallied first giving the visitors a 1-0 edge just 4:11 into the game.  After a pair of WP shots, Lauren Smith converted her fifth unassisted chipping a ball over the outstretched Erica Hickey from just outside the box.  The jubilation, however, was short-lived, as just over a minute later, things were even.  Michaela Stanton threaded a ball onto the waiting foot of Marisa Adelman, who blasted in a shot from just inside the box, beating CSI keeper Kaila DiBenedetto to knot the score at 1-1 just 5:22 into the game.

The game-winner came just under 10 minutes later, as Adelman scored again, her 10th of the season on a right-footed shot in the lower right corner.  From there, the Pioneers defense kept CSI at bay, and the Dolphins could not register another shot for the rest of the first half.  With just under five minutes to play in the opening stanza, the Pioneers tallied again, this time with a Kristen Bowe strike that put in off of a Samantha Persaud initial shot.

A couple of second half goals added to the WP lead that would ultimately stand to a 5-1 final. CSI out-shot WP by a healthy margin in the second frame, 10-4, but four second half saves from Hickey kept the Dolphins off of the register.  Adelman posted both second-half goals for the Pioneers, giving her four for the game on just five shots.

The final shot count was 12-12 (10-4 on goal in favor of the Pioneers).

CSI will look to return to the win column on Wednesday, when they travel to face York College, continuing CUNYAC play, in a match scheduled for 2:30pm.
