Jacquelyn Cali and
Megan McEwan combined for seven 3-pointers as the Dolphins won their third straight, 78-49, to improve to 13-4, 7-1. The win also improves the Dolphins' home mark to 6-2 on the year while the Bearcats continue to struggle on the road as their road record dropped to 1-4. The loss for Baruch moves their record to 4-9, 3-5 on the year.
As a team, the Dolphins shot a red-hot 52.2% from 3-point range, their highest mark of the season.
Diana Todaro added 14 points on 67% shooting from the floor and corraled 8 rebounds.
Rosa Perone tallied 6 points and tied her season high with 9 rebounds in 14 minutes of action.
Baruch struggled to find the bottom of the net but former Dolphin,
Daniela Zirpolo, led the way with 13 while Frances Snyder added 12 of her own. Pacing the way with 5 rebounds was Samantha Genco who also tallied 7 points in the game.
For the first six minutes of the game neither team was able to dig in and take control of the game as the Bearcats and Dolphins were able to remain within one point of another. Todaro would give Staten Island the spark they needed as the Dolphins would end the opening stanza on a 9-2 run to put them up 19-11. The first quarter saw a number of Dolphins contribute including a pair of 3-pointers by
Nicole Imbesi and
Brianna Robisky.
Cali found her groove from range tonight and kicked off the second quarter with a three which was assisted by Robisky. Cali wasn't done there as she sank another pair later in the quarter to push CSI's lead out to 22 points which was their largest lead of the half.
The Dolphins came out in the third quarter on fire, scoring 29 points in that quarter alone. Staten Island scored at will as the Bearcats struggled to find a way to stop a suddenly red-hot Dolphin offense. After an opening miss, the Dolphins drilled six of their next seven shots which stretched their lead out to 35.
Lina Bitar would make sure the Dolphins would head into the final act with a 35-point lead when she converted a layup with 17 ticks left on the clock.
With just one quarter left and a 35-point lead the Dolphins opted to use up the full shot clock before taking a shot. The Bearcats were able to cut the lead down to 22 after an 11-0 run but it was too little too late as the Dolphins were too far ahead.
The Dolphins forced 24 turnovers, which they turned into 29 points. Staten Island also got a helping hand from their bench who tallied 32 points. Both teams collected six steals but the Dolphins won the rebound battle, 46-27.
