Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island Women's Tennis team saw their season-opening losing skid hit six matches, as they fell in straight-sets to visiting Hunter College, 9-0. The Dolphins fell to 0-6, while the Hawks lifted to 6-1.
Play started with Doubles, and Hunter was able to get off to a great start. That started with an 8-0 win at the No. 3 position, as the duo of Bernice Shi and Laura Alvim were able to score the win over CSI's
Jasmine Shaikh and
Jaclyn Kateridge. Hunter then doubled the lead when their top team of Zaara Afida and Liliko Chung scored a 8-1 winner over CSI's
Tristiana Adragna and
Lorianna Fernandez.
The tightest match of the day would be at the No. 2 position, where CSI's
Mariah DeGuia and
Madison Baialardo were locked in with HC's Monika Zabolicki and Anna Baylosis. Hunter would have the better of it, scoring the victory, 8-4.
The Hawks would go on to take that momentum into Singles, and they would clinch things up with 6-0, 6-0, wins at Nos. 4-5, as Shi and Baylosis did the honors. Zabolicki scored a 6-1, 6-1, win over DeGuia at No. 3, while Afida was victorious, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1. Chung scored a 6-0, 6-2, win at No. 2 over Fernandez, while Alvim made it complete at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-1, win over
Claudia Porcaro.
CSI will be back in action on Thursday, when they face off on the road against Brooklyn College, at 3pm.
