DOLPHINS SUFFER SHUTOUT DEFEAT VS PIONEERS, 3-0

Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer team returned home following a loss against Ramapo College for their fifth meeting all-time with William Paterson University and were shut out for the first time in this young season by a score of 3-0.  The two teams remained locked in a scoreless tie until a 45' goal by Marisa Adelman put the Pioneers ahead for good.  WPU added two more goals in the second half, another by Adelman, and one by Corrine Bowe, dropping the Dolphins to 1-2 with the three-goal defeat and improving their season mark to 3-1-1.

The Pioneers and Dolphins battled through a competitive first half which saw both teams come away with some solid scoring chances early on.  The first of these was with a header by Danielle Dachowski that sailed high followed by shots from Lorraine Moffit and Adelman that challenged Dolphins goalkeeper Samantha Beaudreault in the opening minutes.  The Dolphins first quality opportunity would come on a Samantha LaValle shot from the right side of the box that missed just wide.  LaValle would also send a header attempt wide which was the last of the CSI chances in half number one.

The match remained scoreless until the final minute of the first half when Adelman put WPU on the scoreboard for the first time.  After the Pioneers won the ball in the midfield, she worked her way through the Dolphins defense, created some open space, and sent a shot into the upper right corner of the net which left Beaudreault with no chance to save it.  This goal sent the Dolphins into halftime facing a one-goal deficit and that would turn out to be all the scoring that the Pioneers would need.

Less than two minutes after play resumed, the Pioneers got another goal from Adelman, her third of the season, to go ahead 2-0.  Already having netted a pair, Adelman wasn't finished yet as she went on to assist the third Pioneers goal, this one scored by Corrine Bowe.  Trailing by three in the 65', the Dolphins finally tallied their first shot of the second half in the 71'.  However, they failed to mount any significant threat to Pioneer's goalkeeper Brooke Sachau's shutout and fell by a final score of 3-0.

In a game where CSI was only outshot by three, 10-7, the bulk of the scoring chances belonged to the Pioneers.  Over half of the seven CSI shots belonged to LaValle who attempted four.  However, the Dolphins only put two shots on goal while the Pioneers put eight on goal.  With the Dolphins failing to put together a sustained scoring threat, Adelman fueled the Pioneers attack scoring the first two WPU goals tallying an assist on the third goal scored by Bowe.

Coming off of a pair of defeats, the Dolphins will be looking to rebound in what will be another tough matchup with Division II Concordia-NY on Wednesday.  Kickoff from the CSI Soccer Complex will be at 3:30 PM.
