Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island Women's Tennis team saw their season-opening losing skid hit four games, as they were shut down by visiting Farmingdale State this afternoon by a 9-0 count at the CSI Tennis Center. For CSI, they fell to 0-4, while the Rams, winners of five-straight, are now 6-1 to open 2019.
Four Dolphins made their playing debut today but things certainly did not go according to plan. In the top Doubles spot, FSC's tandem of Kayla Reidy and Anastasia Hoffman were able to score a 6-0 win over CSI's team of
Mariah DeGuia and
Lorianna Fernandez. One flight lower, CSI team of
Madison Baialardo and
Claudia Porcaro made their debut, but were cast aside by FSC's Nicole Tzanetos and Nicole Ferguson, also by a 6-0 count.
In what turned out to be the tightest match of the day, CSI's sister duo of
Alexis Kateridge and
Jaclyn Kateridge, who won a previous match by default, were outdone by the Rams' Mia Murrell and Katherine Del Valle, 6-2.
When it came time for Singles, Reidy (No. 1) and Hoffman (No. 3) both took 6-0, 6-0, wins in their flights over DeGuia and Baialardo, respectively. Cameren Jackson scored a 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 4 against
Jaclyn Kateridge, while Shari Jackson defeated
Alexis Kateridge by the same score one flight lower. In the No. 6 spot, Danielle Aresta defeated Porcaro, also 6-0, 6-0. Fernandez was the only Dolphin to score a point in Singles, falling at No. 2 to Rosa Lettieri, 6-0, 6-1.
Still searching for their first win, CSI will try again on Friday, September 27, when they host Baruch College, at 3:30 pm.
