The College of Staten Island Women's Tennis team could not overturn their season-opening losing skid, falling to visiting Baruch College this afternoon at the CSI Tennis Center, 7-0. The win improved the Bearcats to 5-1, while CSI fell to 0-5 to start 2019.
Play opened with Doubles, and the teams played the three flights worth one total point. It was the Bearcats that dominated from start to finish there. In the third flight, Regina Kelley and Victoria Kisling were the first ones off of the court, with a 6-0 win over CSI's
Iris Cule and
Jaclyn Kateridge. Moments later, Lauren Kraker and Natalie Ibelhaupt came away with the same score over CSI's
Hannah Bruschi and
Lorianna Fernandez. The Dolphins were able to register a winning game in No. 1 Doubles, but in the end, Baruch's Hailey Feuer and Lejla Redzematovic scored a 6-1 winner over
Tristiana Adragna and
Mariah DeGuia.
When play shifted the Singles, Baruch was able to continue the roll. Kelley at No. 5 and Regina Avrutis, at No. 6, both scored 6-0, 6-0, wins over CSI's Cule and Kateridge, respectively. Kraker scored a quick win at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-1, win over DeGuia, and Feuer won by the same score at the top spot over Adragna. The shutout clincher came at No. 2, where Justina Camaj scored a 6-2, 6-1, win over Bruschi.
Still winless, the Dolphins will try next on Tuesday, October 1, at 12 Noon, against Hunter College, at the CSI Tennis Center.
