Bronx, NY | The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball team scored their 9th-straight victory tonight, storming past Lehman College, 84-32, at The Apex, completing the two game set between the two sides this season. The win, CSI's 14th in the last 16 games, improved the team to 14-8, while the Lightning fell to 1-21.
CSI led from wire-to-wire in this one, very similar to their lopsided win over Lehman in January 15. The Dolphins used the game's first four minutes to open a 10-0 advantage, book-ended by baskets from
Kayla Schmitter. After Lehman scored their first basket, CSI ripped off another 10-0 run, helped by two-straight
Megan McEwan baskets to open the lead up to 20-2 with 2:22 to go in the opening quarter, setting the stage for the rest of the game.
After
Lola Plamenco nailed a three and
Jada Rogers a score, CSI led 25-10 at the first intermission, and CSI kept it up with an 8-0 spurt to start the second quarter. The run was finished by senior
Lina Bitar, who returned from injury that derailed her entire season until now, as she scored a pair of baskets in the win. That helped give CSI a 23-point lead, the same lead they would later take into intermission, 37-14.
Another big quarter for CSi was in store in the third, as McEwan nailed three-straight three-pointers in one stretch to expand the lead to 46-20, and CSi later closed the frame on a 7-0 bender, finished by an
Elena Demontreux three, that gave CSI their biggest lead, 63-25.
As good as they were all night, CSI saved some room for more great play in the fourth quarter, out-scoring Lehman, 21-7, in the frame. Plamenco would drain another three, and CSi finished the game on a 9-0 run over the last 4:22, finished by more three's from Plamenco and Demontreux to help CSI to the 84-32 finish.
Four scorers finished in double-figures, led by McEwan's 18 points in 28 minutes.
Diana Todaro notched 15 points and 9 rebounds, while Schmitter finished with 10 points and a team-high 11 boards. Rogers also closed with 10 for the Dolphins, who shot 47.9% from the field (35-73) to Lehman's 23.2% (11-52). The Lightning were led by Fatomata Trawalleh and Eriadna Vasquez who each tallied 14 points.
CSI will travel for their next game on Monday, against Brooklyn College, at 5 PM. It will be their final road test of the season before finishing up the season with two straight games at The Tank.
