Staten Island, NY - Facing Roberts Wesleyan College in the third of three consecutive conference matchups and for the first time in program history, the College of Staten Island Women's Soccer team dropped today's match by a final score of 3-1. The loss dropped the Dolphins to 2-8 overall and 1-3 in ECC play. The win was the first of the season for the 1-7-1 Redhawks and improved them to 1-3 in the conference.
KEY MOMENTS
The Redhawks got on the board first with the game's first goal in the twenty-ninth minute when Abigail Sindoni dribbled through a trio of Dolphins and put one past a diving Sara Villacres. However, it didn't take CSI long to get even as Nadia Evola became the first Dolphin to score her second goal of the season in the thirty-third minute. With the game still tied at one in the sixty-fourth minute, Hailey Cole sent one into the air and over the outstretched arm of Villacres to make it 2-1. Just three minutes later, Sindoni added her second of the game on a shot that beat Villacres top-shelf to make it 3-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Sara Villacres made eleven saves against the nineteen shots she faced, many of which were remarkable stops. The Dolphins had ten shots in the game, most coming in the final minutes of the match, but only three of those were on goal. After a back-and-forth first half, it was the Redhawks that possessed the ball for the majority of half number two and limited the CSI scoring opportunities to a few shot attempts in the closing minutes.
DOLPHIN(S) OF THE GAME
Villacres was phenomenal in goal for the Dolphins throughout the first half and the opening minutes of the second half. Both Villacres and the Dolphin defense faced immense pressure during the first fifteen minutes after the intermission culminating in a saved penalty shot by the Dolphins keeper. Ultimately, the Redhawks would strike for a pair of goals during a four-minute span to go ahead 3-1, but this did not take away from the quality of her performance in net.
