Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer team suffered a tough loss at the hands of Goldey-Beacom this afternoon as they were kept entirely off of the scoreboard in a 5-0 defeat. The loss dropped CSI to 2-9 while the win improved the Lightning to 4-5.
KEY MOMENTS
The Dolphins were able to fend off the attacking pressure of the Lightning for the first twenty-one minutes, but Goldey-Beacom was finally able to break through in the twenty-second minute when Alyssa Ruggieri's team-leading fourth goal of the season gave her team a 1-0 lead. Before the first half came to an end, the Lightning would score twice more, both goals coming off the foot of Lexi Coppola. The score remained 3-0 until the closing minutes when Ruggieri's second of the game and Taylor Owen's fourth of the season made it 5-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Once again, the Dolphins were plagued by a huge shot disparity between themselves and the opposition with the Lightning outshooting CSI 20-4. Five of the twenty shots were attempted by Ruggieri, six were taken by substitute Angela Lee, and three more were attempted by Coppola. For the Dolphins, the scoreless performance ended a streak of three consecutive games with a goal, a stretch in which they scored five goals across their previous three matches.
DOLPHIN(S) OF THE GAME
Only two Dolphins played the full ninety minutes in the match as both Betine Voigt-Pentzen and Mirsade Pelinkovic earned that distinction for CSI. Both were also key to controlling helping CSI combat the attack of the Lightning in the midfield, but unfortunately for the Dolphins, that was not enough to keep them in the game.
