West Babylon, NY | The East Coast Conference has announced their weekly award winners and among the selections in baseball was the College of Staten Island for the very first time, as
Thomas Joyce was named this week's Player of the Week. Joyce was a big part of CSI's weekend series against Lincoln University, where CSI was able to take two of three games on the road against the Lions.
Joyce spread out seven hits in the weekend series this past weekend, going a CSI-best .500 at the plate with four of those its going for extra bases, including a trio of doubles and a solo home run shot in CSI's 11-7 win on Saturday. Joyce scattered six RBI in the series, adding a couple of runs scored as well. For the season, Joyce is batting .326 this year, good for second on the squad with a team-best 15 hits and 13 RBI. He is second on the squad with five doubles while his pair of homers is tied for the team lead. Joyce has also pitched 10 innings this season, having fanned 11 batters in that stretch.
Joyce joins Alex Mack from St. Thomas Aquinas College, who earned Pitcher of the Week, and Hilman Truss from Lincoln, who earned Rookie of the Week, as the honorable selections made by the ECC this week.
CSI Baseball continues their season on Friday when they travel to Mercy College for a doubleheader in Dobbs Ferry. Despite the two games, only one, the first, will count towards the conference standings.
