GAME DAY: BASEBALL SET TO FACE OFF WITH MERCY IN AN ECC DOUBLEHEADER

DOBBS FERRY, NY – The College of Staten Island baseball team will hit the road this weekend for a four-game series against Mercy University, beginning with an East Coast Conference (ECC) doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The first two contests of the four game series with be a conference doubleheader, but on Saturday, the two team are meeting in a non-conference contest.

2025 Series Meeting
The Dolphins and Mavericks met five times during the 2025 season, including a matchup in the ECC postseason tournament that marked CSI's first-ever Division II conference playoff appearance.

During the regular season, the teams split the series, 2-2. CSI opened the contest with an 11-9 victory and later secured a 9-4 win to close out the regular season slate.

In the postseason meeting, Mercy struck first with a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. CSI responded in the bottom of the fourth when Jaden Waterman drove in the tying run, followed by an RBI single from Michael Flashner to give the Dolphins a 2-1 advantage. The Mavericks answered with two runs in the fifth to regain the lead, 3-2. Although CSI managed to tie the game once more, they ultimately fell, 5-4, marking their first loss of the tournament.

Current Standings / Statistical Insights
The Dolphins enter the series following an explosive four-game stretch against St. Thomas Aquinas, during which they totaled 45 runs, 44 hits, and eight home runs. CSI currently leads the ECC with a .312 team batting average.

Mercy sits second in the conference standings with an 8-4 record and ranks fourth in team batting average at .296. On the mound, the Mavericks hold the edge with a 4.90 team ERA and 157 strikeouts.

In the all-time series, Mercy leads 23-12. CSI earned its first-ever win over the Mavericks in their inaugural meeting in 1979. Since transitioning to Division II, the Dolphins initially dropped seven straight games in the series before beginning to trade wins more consistently starting in 2022.

Individual Leaders
CSI's strong offensive showing last week has fueled several standout individual performances. Jandel Brito leads the team with a .388 batting average and is tied for the team lead with five doubles. Jamel Vera follows closely at .384 and leads the team in hits (28) and RBI (20), while also adding three home runs.

Jack Kehoe ranks third with a .359 average and recently hit his first home run of the season against STAC. Jason Romance leads the team with four home runs while batting .357, a mark matched in the power column by Jaden Waterman, who hit two home runs in Tuesday's contest.

On the mound, Michael Furst leads the team with a 4.88 ERA and a 2-2 record, while also earning his first save of the season on Tuesday. He has recorded 20 strikeouts across 24.0 innings pitched. Aiden Kielty follows with 17 strikeouts in 22.0 innings.

Mercy features one of the conference's top hitters, batting .400 with 34 hits and 12 RBI through 27 games. He is supported by two additional key contributors hitting .394 and .370, respectively. On the pitching side, the Mavericks boast the ECC's ERA leader, who holds a 2.65 ERA, a 4-1 record, and 41 strikeouts over 44.1 innings pitched.
