Staten Island, NY – In a sunny afternoon in New Haven, CT, The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer team was defeated by the Owls of Southern Connecticut University (SCU) by a final score of, 5-0. SCU would nab their first win of the season now sitting at, 1-2 overall, while CSI would fall to, 1-3 overall. This would be the first meeting ever between both squads. The Dolphins would play catch-up most of the game as the Owls were able to score in the first five minutes of play. Thus far this season the women are unable to score a goal away from Dolphin Soccer Park.
KEY MOMENTS
The first half was very quiet for CSI, thus, the Dolphins would go into halftime down, 0-2, as the Owls were on the attack early and often. CSI couldn't register a shot in the first half. It was until the 65th and 67th minutes of play when CSI was able to record two shots-on-goal, however, both were saved by Owl's goalie Allie Smith. The Owls would tack on three more goals in the second half, including one within the first four minutes of play. Although CSI played with more heart in the second half, the Owls were just a little too much to handle on the offensive side of the ball as well as on the defensive side.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Owls outshot the Dolphins, 20-2 (11-2 SOG). Freshmen,
Emily Albano and
Kolleen Rodriguez were the only Dolphins to each take a shot in the game, both on goal. CSI became more physical in the second half, recording 10 fouls alone in the second period, compared to only one in the first half. CSI also recorded their only corner kick of the game in the second half, helping them muster one of their two shots on goal. For the Owls, Victoria Vera tallied two goals in the game, one in the first period and one in the second period, helping her squad come out on top.
