Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer team played in their first East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup of the season against the Mavericks of Mercy College on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Dobbs Ferry, NY. They lost by a final of, 3-0, moving their overall record to, 1-5 on the season and, 0-1 in the ECC. The Mavericks improved to, 2-1-2 (1-0 ECC).
KEY MOMENTS
For the Women, it was another struggle on the offensive side as defense was on the for front for the Dolphins, especially in the first half as CSI starting goalie,
Sara Villacres was active saving six shots for CSI. It was in the 6th minute of play, when Mercy's Skyler Schwenkler scored a goal off a corner kick to give the Mavericks a, 1-0 lead. The Dolphins would stay vigilante the entire first half keeping the Mavericks at bay despite the barrage of shot attempts by Mercy's strikers. Three minutes into the second half, Mercy registered their second goal of the game off the foot of Kayla Camacho. Mercy would add a third and final goal late in the game sealing their, 3-0 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Women had no answer for the offensive front that the Mavericks had all game long, outshooting CSI 21-2 (1-11 Shots-On-Goal). The Dolphins mustered zero corners in the game while Mercy utilized eight of them to help their scoring chances. CSI's
Betine Voigt-Pentzen registered both shots for the Dolphins, one of which was on goal but saved by Mercy's subbed in goalie late in the game.
