DOLPHINS SNAP LOSING SKID WITH SHUTOUT OF LINCOLN, 2-0

Staten Island, NY -  Facing Lincoln University for the first time in program history this afternoon, the College of Staten Island Women's Soccer team picked up their first conference victory of the season by a score of 2-0. The win ended a five-game Dolphins losing streak and improved their record to 2-7 overall, 1-3 in ECC play. The loss dropped the winless Lions to 0-6 overall, 0-3 in the conference.

KEY MOMENTS

The Dolphins held a significant advantage in time of possession throughout the first half, but it wasn't until a red card was issued to Najerrei Thompson in the thirtieth minute that the Dolphins got on the scoreboard. Shortly after gaining a one-player advantage, Jenna Como netted her first goal of the season to make it 1-0. Mirsade Pelinkovic added her first just a few minutes later to give CSI a 2-0 lead that would stand the rest of the way. The lone scoring chance for the Lions came in the second half when Kianna Lee faced an empty net but failed to get a shot off against the pursuing Dolphins defense.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Following a stretch of games where the Dolphins were outshot by a wide margin, they compiled a 19-0 shot advantage in today's match. Of those nineteen attempts, thirteen were on target and several nearly extended the Dolphins lead beyond two goals in the second half. The Dolphins' advantage also extended to corner kicks, 11-4, with the lone blemish on the stat sheet for CSI being the 13 offsides calls against them.

DOLPHIN(S) OF THE GAME

The Dolphins of the game both scored in today's victory and led the team to their first East Coast Conference victory. Mirsade Pelinkovic and Jenna Como, both registering their first goal of 2021, gave the Dolphins a 2-0 lead going into the halftime break. They join four other Dolphins who have tallied a single goal this year giving CSI six different goal-scorers through their first nine matches.
