Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

DOLPHINS FALL TO YELLOW JACKETS IN SEASON OPENER

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer team fell to the Yellow Jackets of American International College (AIC), 4-0, earlier this afternoon at the University of Bridgeport Soccer Classic in Connecticut. In what was a breezy afternoon, the Dolphins gave it their all on the field; they played with passion, especially defensively, as the Yellow Jackets were on the attack for much of the game.

KEY MOMENTS
The Dolphins were forced to play on the defensive side of the ball for most of the afternoon, keeping the Yellow Jackets at bay with, Sara Villacres getting the start at the goal for CSI. It wasn't until the 9:10 mark when AIC's Rachel Newman, ripped one from near mid field that took a funny bounce and found the back of the net just past Villacres's reach, to give them an early, 1-0 lead. That would be all AIC needed, though, they were able to tack on a few more throughout the game for insurance. Meanwhile for CSI, Nadia Evola, recorded the only shot-on-goal in the second half as the Dolphins were more aggressive as the game progressed.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Dolphins were out shot in this one, 24-1, while saving nine of those shots between both Dolphin goalies. Villacres started the game for CSI and played 76 plus minutes. Ariel Salaman played the final 14 minutes and due to a few bad breaks gave up two more goals before the game went final at, 4-0. AIC recorded eight corner kicks, while the Dolphins couldn't register a single corner kick that might have given them more chances to score.

COACH'S REACTION
In Brendan Guzman's first stint as a college coach, he liked what he saw from his team and believes they will improve as the season goes on. "They played well, it's really hard to compete against any NE10 team to open the season. Getting a big challenge like today is what we expected, it's something we prepared for, and we will grow from, said Guzman postgame. I was happy with the challenge that we set and the ability to fight, but I think the jump from Division III to Division II level of play was evident today and I'm hoping the players will rise to the occasion as the season continues."

DOLPHIN(S) OF THE GAME
Today's Dolphins of the game will be the entire defensive front for CSI, the score could have been much worse, however, CSI played physical and blocked, obscured and saved many balls that could have easily turned into multiple scoring plays for AIC.

WHATS NEXT
The Dolphins will continue their Soccer Classic invite with only a day to reflect on the loss. They will prepare for a battle on Sunday, September 5th, as CSI will take on the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) at 12:00pm.
