CSI HIRES TIFFANY GALBO AS NEW HEAD CHEERLEADING COACH

1/31/2022 5:00:00 PM

The defending back-to-back CUNYAC Cheerleading Champions have hired a new Head Coach in Tiffany Galbo. She is Cheerleading's fourth Head Coaching hire since their program reboot in 2009.  Galbo will replace Kristie Perrotta, who stepped down due to personal reasons during the COVID canceled season. Perrotta had nothing but high praise for Galbo to step into the fore front of the cheer program. Galbo has been an assistant Cheerleading Coach for the last five years under two different head coaches. She was a vital part of the cheer coaching staff who assisted with both Championship winning routines in 2018 & 2019 under Perrotta.

Galbo is no stranger to CSI, she is a proud alumnus of the college and cheered on the team from 2014-2016. It was in 2016, while finishing her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, when former Head Coach, Camello Vanloo asked Galbo to be his assistant for her first break in coaching a cheer program. When Vanloo stepped down, Perrotta asked Galbo to stay on as an assistant as it was clear she had an undeniable passion for the sport of Cheerleading & STUNT. Upon Galbo's hire she stated, "It won't be easy to essentially rebuild a program after over a year of a canceled season, however, I want to build a program where athletes want to be a part of, a place that they can feel safe and could come clear their head from the real world while making new connections for life after cheer."

In 2021, her passion for cheer landed her a position as Senior Director of Operations for Cheer4Cause (C4C), USA's premier cheerleading-for-charity. A non-profit organization that concentrates on raising money and awareness while bettering the lives of today's youth with the sport of Cheerleading & STUNT. In the same year, Galbo became a STUNT official for the sport of STUNT. Galbo intends to spark the same passion she has in cheer to her team, "Whether it's as a coach, manager or director of any program, I try to show my athletes or employees that the hard work and sacrifice they put into their season or any job will help them tremendously toward their future endeavors."

Tiffany isn't the only Galbo rooted in CSI Athletics, she has two younger sisters who both played a sport at CSI recently. In fact, Galbo coached her sister, Nancy Galbo, was a cheerleader for CSI and was a part of the 2018 & 2019 Championship winning seasons. Nancy was named Rookie of the Year in 2018 and received the CUNYAC Sportsmanship team award in 2019. Her third sister, Antoinette Galbo was a Softball star at CSI from 2016-2019. She also won Rookie of the Year in 2016 and worked her way up to a 1st-team CUNYAC All-Star by the end of her 2019 season. Tiffany can recall, "The CSI Athletic department has brought me and my siblings many college memories, we were introduced to individuals that became a part of our everyday life and created a home for us from the moment we stepped foot onto the campus as freshmen."

Galbo seeks to create a robust and successful vision for the program; however, she knows she cannot do it alone and thus brought in some help. Returning as an assistant is Katie Platt, who was a four-year cheerleader at Widner University and has experience in both National Cheerleading Association (NCA) & the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) College Cheerleading National Championships. Galbo also brought in former CSI Cheerleading MVP, Alyssa Dunn who cheered at CSI from 2016-2019 and coached by Perrotta and Tiffany during her cheer years.

In a short time, Galbo has already establish a full team (See the 2021-22 Cheer Roster HERE) and has them cheering at recent basketball games since the start of the 2022 year. Like many other college cheer programs, her goal is nationals and Galbo is confident that can happen with proper leadership, dedication and passion from her student-athletes and coaches alike. "As an alumnus, I am ready to take this program as far as it could go. It'll take some time, but we have all the time in the world. I am extremely happy to continue to be an even bigger part of the Dolphin Family!"
