DOLPHINS EARN FIRST WINS OF SEASON BEHIND RECORD-BREAKING NIGHT FOR SWANSON

10/28/2022 9:00:00 PM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Swimming & Diving Team earned their first wins of the season this evening in convincing fashion as the men defeated Western Connecticut State, 137-59, and the women downed the Wolves, 110-68.  For Jordan Swanson, it was a record-breaking night as she posted record scores in both 1 Meter and 3 Meter Diving.  Both the Dolphins men and women even up their record at 1-1 while both Western Connecticut State squads fall to 0-1.

The Dolphins jumped out to an early lead on both the men's and women's side following victories in the 200 Yard Medley Relays, but the Wolves responded with wins in both 100 Yard Freestyles.  From there, the Dolphins won every individual event ahead of the diving break with the exceptions of the Men's 50 Yard Freestyle and Women's 200 Yard IM.  Once again, it was a clean sweep of the diving events for CSI as the only divers competing in the 1 Meter and 3 Meter Diving events were Dolphins.  This extended the CSI lead further, but the Wolves were able to draw a bit closer with victories in both 100 Yard Freestyle events and the Women's 100 Yard Backstroke.

By the time the teams were set for the final two events of the night following the meet's short second break, the men already had already secured the win.  However, the women's meet remained undecided with a slim chance for the Wolves to pull off a late comeback.  Following a win in the 500 Yard Freestyle, Western Connecticut State needed to win the final two events to pull off a late comeback, but CSI closed the door with a first place performance by Jessica Johnson in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.  The Dolphins would then compete uncontested in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relays to wrap up the night an earned their first wins of the season.

For the women, Johnson and Brooke Manning had a pair of first place finishes and Jordan Swanson surpassed 250 points in both 1 Meter and 3 Meter Diving.  Swanson's score of 250.55 in the 1 Meter event was already a new program record, but she didn't wait long to top that effort as she posted a score of 254.75 to break the pool record in 3 Meter Diving as well.  For the men, Anthony Attenborough and Charles Cusumano both finished first in multiple events and Michael Graham swept the diving events unopposed.  The Dolphins also won every relay event on the program and won as many as four non-diving events consecutively at the end of the meet,

The Dolphins will next be in action on week from tomorrow when they welcome both Sarah Lawrence College and Mount Saint Mary College into The Tank.  That meet gets underway next Saturday at 1 PM.
