PARRA GOES BACK-TO-BACK AS DIVER OF THE MEET; SWIM AND DIVE IMPROVE AT NE10 CHAMPS

WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of Staten Island made its third appearance at the Northeast-10 (NE10) Championship, competing from Thursday, Feb. 12 through Sunday, Feb. 15.

Across four days of competition, Yubal Parra repeated as NE10 Diver of the Meet, the Dolphins shattered school records, captured their first collegiate medals, and celebrated a historic milestone as the women's team defeated Saint Michael's for the first time in program history when the final standings were announced.

The women improved their position in the standings from last season, finishing ahead of both Saint Michael's and Assumption University with 258.00 points. The men's team placed fifth overall with 315.00 points.

Day 1
The championship opened on Thursday as the women's 800 freestyle relay team of Maria Janecka, Maja Tomaszewska, Polly Struck, and Michalina Bukowska set a new school record with a time of 8:15.26. On the men's side, Julian Lopez, William Kwan, Adria Garcia Fuentes, and James Curran placed seventh in the same event, touching the wall at 7:21.29.

Meanwhile, Yubal Parra took to the 3M diving event and delivered a commanding preliminary performance and posted a score of 520.65 to advance comfortably into Friday's finals.

Day 2
With momentum building, Parra returned for the 3M diving finals and delivered. The reigning NE10 Diver of the Meet captured gold with a final score of 481.05, finishing nearly 100 points ahead of the runner-up. Jaqueline DeFranco followed with an impressive showing of her own on the 1M board and placed second in the preliminaries with a score of 309.95 and later secured silver in the finals, posting a 323.90.

In the pool, Maria Janecka advanced to the A Final in the 50 freestyle and narrowly missed her first collegiate medal, finishing fourth in 24.51. However, her first NE10 medal is in her sights. On the men's side, Vlad Siniagovskii competed in the B Final of the 50 free, finishing with a time of 21.21.

Day 3
By Saturday, the Dolphins' medal count continued to grow. Janecka delivered a record-breaking preliminary swim in the 100 butterfly, setting a new school mark with a time of 57.60. She later returned for the finals and officially earned her first NE10 medal, finishing third.

Siniagovskii added another bronze for CSI in the 100 backstroke, touching in 49.96 to secure the team's fourth medal of the week. Parra once again commanded the board, this time on the 1M and earned his second gold medal of the weekend with a score of 505.50, propelling him toward his second Diver of the Meet honor.

Day 4
On the final day of competition, the Dolphins closed strong, bringing home three more medals, including the performance that officially secured Parra's back-to-back NE10 Diver of the Meet title.

Janecka captured another bronze medal in the 100 freestyle, finishing third in the A Final with a time of 53.20. DeFranco added to her impressive weekend with a second-place finish in the 3-meter diving event, scoring 286.80.

Parra sealed his dominance with another gold-medal performance on the 1-meter board, scoring 505.50 in the finals to clinch Diver of the Meet honors for the second consecutive season.

The championship concluded with a memorable moment in the 400 freestyle relay. The men's quartet of Tiki Keats, Elliot Radov, Adria Garcia Fuentes, and Yassin Hussein defeated Saint Michael's, marking the program's first victory over the Purple Knights in the Division II era.

The Dolphins' season is not finished. CSI returns to the pool Friday, Feb. 20, for a two-day meet at the NYU Invitational, hosted at the Palladium Athletic Facility in New York, NY.
