Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOLPHINS CAN'T OVERCOME POOR SECOND HALF IN LOSS TO TIGERS, 73-52

Philadelphia, PA - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team could not overcome a poor second half in tonight's matchup with the Holy Family University Tigers as they dropped their third game of the season by a final score of 73-52.  The Dolphins begin their season 0-3 following the defeat while the Tigers remain unbeaten at 3-0.

The Tigers scored fourteen of the game's first sixteen points to get things started, but the Dolphins immediately responded with a 19-3 run of their own.  Led by nine first-half points from Bryce Waterman, the Dolphins took a four-point lead with 5:30 remaining before halftime. However, it was all Holy Family for the rest of the half, and the Tigers closed the half on their second 14-2 run of the game.

Trailing by eight at the start of the second half, the Dolphins would only get as close as five with eighteen minutes to play.  The rest of the way, the Holy Family lead would only grow behind 45% three-point shooting.  For the Dolphins, their own shooting struggles prevented them from staying within striking distance and they trailed by no less than ten for the final ten minutes of the game.

The Dolphins were led in scoring by Bryce Waterman and Messiah Mallory, both of whom had 12 points. However, neither shot the ball efficiently and the Dolphins shot 27% as a team for the game. Defensively, the Dolphins held the Tigers to just 37% shooting in the first 20 minutes, but Holy Family was able to pull away behind far better shooting in the second half. Leading the Tigers in scoring was David Robinson Jr. who finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Malik Archer and Eric Esposito also finished in double-figures scoring 12 and 13 points respectively.

The Dolphins will next be in action in six days when they will once again be on the road next Tuesday against Saint Michael's.
