GAMEDAY: WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TAKES ON BLOOMFIELD IN FIRST ROAD GAME

11/16/2022 8:00:00 AM

Bloomfield, PA - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team will be on the road tonight as they take on the Bloomfield College Bears in non-conference play at 5:30 PM.  The Dolphins last played this past weekend during their annual Conference Challenge and dropped a pair of games to open the season. The Bears also enter today's game 0-2 following a pair of losses in the Caldwell University Conference Challenge to open their season.

After cutting a 20 point lead to four in a loss to Holy Family on Saturday, the Dolphins saw a double-digit lead evaporate in the final quarter against Bridgeport on Sunday.  It was second chance points that put the Dolphins in a big hole against the Tigers on Saturday, but they were able to get within two possessions with over a minute left to play.  On Sunday, the Dolphins led by as many as 10 in the third quarter, but a 14-0 run by Bridgeport in the fourth put the Purple Knights ahead for good.  The Bears struggled in each of their first two games of the season scoring less than 50 points in each and suffering a pair of lopsided defeats.  Both teams will take the court today in search of their first victory of the season.

Jenalyse Alarcon started the season by picking up right where she left of last season earning a spot on the East Coast Conference Weekly Honor Roll.  This past weekend she turned in a pair of 21 point, 11 rebound efforts and collected 4 blocks and 4 steals across the two games.  Ashley Lambert provided the Dolphins with some scoring from the outside hitting four of her eleven three-point attempts.  Also connecting on four threes was freshman Dana Phelan who started Sunday's game 3-3 from beyond the arc.  Alarcon and Elizabeth Lofaro demonstrated their playmaking ability on Sunday as well dishing out a combined ten assists in the game.  Defensively, the Dolphins will be looking to make sure the Bears' offensive struggles continue for at least one more game.  The Bears come in having just one double-digit scoring performance and having shot under 30% across two games thus far.
