DOLPHINS MAKE THIRD APPEARANCE IN ECC CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

11/5/2022 10:52:00 PM

Rochester, NY - The College of Staten Island Cross-Country Team traveled to Rochester, NY earlier today to make their third appearance in the ECC Cross-Country Championship.  The Dolphins first competed in the ECC Championship back in 2019 and the meet was canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.  The event returned in 2021 when the Dolphins competed once again.  The event featured a women's 5K and a men's 8K with seven teams competing on the women's side and five on the men's side.

The CSI men did not qualify to place as a team with only four participants in the 8K event.  Muhammed Qadri, Matthew Amato, Pedro Astudillo, and Jamel Reynolds competed for the men posting times ranging from 32:15.3 to 47:01.9.  The CSI women placed 7th in the field of seven teams led by Julia Calvo's time of 25:46.1.  Kaysha Barrett, Hailey Caruso, Jazmine Severo, and Fabiola Jean also completed the 5K race qualifying the Dolphins for placement as a unit.

Both the men's and women's meets were won by Roberts Wesleyan with Daemen finishing second in both meets as well.  Third in the women's meet belonged to Molloy while St. Thomas Aquinas College took third in the men's meet.  Today's outing is the last for the Dolphins ahead of the scheduled NCAA East Region Cross-Country Championships next weekend.  Following that meet, much of the Dolphins squad will begin preparations for Indoor Track & Field season coming up this winter.
