MEETDAY: CROSS-COUNTRY HEADS TO ROCHESTER FOR ECC CHAMPIONSHIP MEET

11/5/2022 8:00:00 AM

Rochester, NY - The College of Staten Island Cross-Country Team will travel to Rochester today as they compete in the East Coast Conference Championship for the third time in program history.  The Dolphins first participated in the ECC Championship back in the 2019 season, their first as an NCAA Division II program.  At the time, Cross-Country / Track & Field were the only programs that were eligible for conference championship competition in the aftermath of the move to D II.  The Dolphins placed sixth in their ECC Championship debut that year, the meet was wiped out amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and the Dolphins competed once again in 2021.

The Dolphins' season began in early September this fall and their schedule was comprised of seven meets across the eight-week regular season.  The team of CSI men has remained largely unchanged for much of the season.  Muhammed Qadri, Alan Bass, Matthew Amato, Pedro Astudillo and Jamel Reynolds have participated in most of this season's meets as a unit.  For the women, their squad has seen a larger group of runners hit the course this year.  Most recently, the Dolphins debuted several new runners alongside Alexandrea Jackson, Kaysha Barrett and Fabiola Jean, each of whom has participated in the majority of CSI's meets.

The Dolphins wrapped up their regular season schedule at the Adelphi Short-Course Showdown on October 21st.  They have since had two weeks off and head into today's championship meet looking to build upon their efforts in 2019 and 2021.  Following today's meet, the only remaining outing on the CSI schedule is the NCAA East Region Cross-Country Championships in Bethpage, NY on November 15th.
