GAMEDAY: MEN'S BASKETBALL HOSTS ALLIANCE UNIVERSITY IN FINAL HOME GAME OF 2022

12/14/2022 10:30:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team goes for their third straight win tonight as they host Alliance University in CSI's final home game of the 2022 calendar year.  The Dolphins enter tonight's game 3-6 on the season and the Warriors come 4-7 in the midst of a six-game losing streak.  The two teams met for the first time last season in a game that Alliance won by just a single point, 76-75.

The Dolphins last played on Saturday against American International College and came from behind to defeat the Yellow Jackets 69-64.  CSI led by as many as 13 in the game, but trailed by as many as 9 in the second half.  Behind 13 second-half points from the ECC and Met Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week Messiah Mallory and a late go-ahead three by Luis Armas, the Dolphins completed the late comeback.  The Warriors last played eight days ago last Tuesday and lost by 21 to Post University in CACC conference play.

Coming off an extraordinary week in which he averaged 25 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, Mallory was named ECC Player of the Week and MBWA Player of the Week.  However, he was not the only Dolphin to receive conference recognition following a 2-0 week for the Dolphins.  JJ Chestnut also received the ECC Rookie of the Week Award for Men's Basketball, his first such accolade of the season.  The duo of Mallory and Chestnut was key in last week's win over UDC scoring 29 and 15 points respectively.  There was perhaps no shot bigger last week than Luis Armas' go-ahead three against American International on Saturday.  He comes in trailing only Mallory in scoring among active Dolphins and is still shooting around 37% from beyond the arc on the season.  For the Warriors Isayas Aris leads the team in scoring at 16.7 points per game and in rebounding at 10.6 per game.  He is also shooting an incredibly efficient 56% from the field to lead the Warriors in that category as well.  Joey Balley is the only other Warrior averaging double-digit scoring at 11.2 points per game.  On the glass, Aris is the only player on the Alliance roster averaging more than 3.8 rebounds per game setting the stage for a potentially game-altering matchup between Aris and Mallory on the inside.
