GAMEDAY: MEN'S BASKETBALL CLOSES OUT 2022 SLATE WITH VISIT TO FELICIAN

12/19/2022 12:00:00 PM

Rutherford, NJ - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team will play their second game in three days as they take on Felician University in their final game of the 2022 calendar year.  The Dolphins enter tonight's game with a record of 3-8 on the season while the Golden Falcons come in with a 3-7 mark on the year.  The two teams have meet twice before, once in the 1999-2000 season and a second time last December.  The Dolphins won the first matchup 22 years ago while the Golden Falcons took a big win in the most recent meeting last season.

The Dolphins last played on Saturday against Georgian Court University and were in control for much of the game entering the final five minutes.  However, the Lions erupted for a 14-0 run over nearly four minutes and held the Dolphins without a basket until there were 22 seconds remaining in the 66-62 GCU victory.  The Golden Falcons also last played on Saturday and surrendered 108 points in their loss to Fairmont State.

The Dolphins are currently led in scoring by Messiah Mallory, but the return of Bryce Waterman gave the Dolphins a much-needed boost in Saturday's game against the Lions.  Mallory scored 20 and grabbed 12 rebounds in that game, and Waterman added 16 points off of the bench.  Waterman is also shooting 45.5% from three-point range on 44 attempts, a total that is still second on the team despite him missing several games.  Waterman has scored in double-figures in every game that he has played this year as well.  Also very efficient from downtown is Luis Armas who is shooting 37% from three and scoring just shy of 14 points per game.

The Golden Falcons are coming off of a season-best performance from beyond the arc in their loss on Saturday, but they are shooting only 32.4% from distance on the year.  Leading the team in scoring is Anas Amos with nearly 15 points per game.  He is also the team's best three-point shooter among players with more than 25 attempts at 36% from long range.  Second on the team in scoring is Jaylen Colon with 13.2 points per game, and both Jonathan Edwards and Etnik Peci are scoring 11.6 points per game.

As a team, Felician is shooting shy of 40% and allowing opponents to shoot 46% from the floor on the season.  As for the Dolphins, they have shot 42% on the year overall and 36% from downtown.  The Dolphins have gotten off to several fast starts this year, but the concern for them following Saturday's game against Georgian Court remains their ability protect leads in the second half.
