GAMEDAY: MEN'S BASKETBALL TAKES ON ST. THOMAS AQUINAS IN SEARCH OF FIRST CONFERENCE WIN

12/3/2022 8:20:00 AM

Sparkill, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team will travel to Sparkill, NY this afternoon for a conference matchup with the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College.  The 1-5 Dolphins are 0-1 against the ECC and will be looking for their first victory against the ECC in today's game.  The Spartans are 6-1 on the season and 1-0 against conference opponents.  The only CSI win against the Spartans came back in 1979.  STAC has won each of the last three meetings, one in 2019 and both meetings last season.

The Dolphins led by as many as 18 points in the first half of their last game against Mercy College on Wednesday.  However, that lead was trimmed to 7 by halftime, and the Mavericks completed the comeback in the closing minutes to knock of the Dolphins by four.  STAC narrowly won their last game as they defeated the University of the District of Columbia to open their conference schedule on Wednesday night.

Messiah Mallory leads active Dolphins in both scoring and rebounding with 15 points and nearly 9 boards per game.  Luis Armas and Chris Velasquez also continue to average in double figures for the Dolphins.  As a team, CSI has shot very well to open the season, especially from three-point range.  The team is shooting 43% from the field and 39% from downtown this season, but CSI has struggled to protect the leads they have built behind their outside shooting.  The Spartans are led in scoring and rebounding by James Patterson who is averaging 17.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.  Patterson is one of four Spartans scoring in double figures, but perhaps more notably, the team has held opponents to sub 40% shooting from the field and sub 25% shooting from the beyond the arc.

Gametime - 3:00 PM
Location - Sparkill, NY
All-Time Series - STAC leads, 3-1
Last Meeting -  2/26/22:  STAC won, 94-74
