DOLPHINS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE

Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island faced off against the Bears today. In their first home doubleheader of the season, the Dolphins split the games against Bloomfield College. They topped the Bears in the first game, 7-1, but fell in game two, 2-5. Today's games put CSI at 5-5 on the season, as the opposing Bears fall to 5-8 overall.

KEY MOMENTS

Game 1
After a quiet top of the first from Bloomfield, the Dolphins got things started with a quick scratch. After walks from both Domenick Castiglione and Santiago, a Shendi Ulaj fly out to centerfield sent Gardner in for the score, 1-0. The Bears would even things up at 1 run apiece behind a single in the top of the fourth. The Dolphins would blow this game open in the bottom of the fifth inning where they turned two hits into three runs. This was sparked by an Ulaj single up the middle that would advance Collica to second. After Campisi was hit by a pitch, the bases found themselves loaded for CSI. A Cippoletti double to left center would send Campisi, Ulaj, and Collica in for scores. The Dolphins would take a commanding 4-1 lead. The Bears would fail to respond, and CSI would pour on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. An Ulaj double would lead to 2 RBIs as Castiglione and Gardner would score. The Dolphins went on to win 7-1.

Game 2
Bloomfield would come out of the gate strong as they put a solo run on the board in both the first and third innings. CSI would struggle early. In the bottom of the fourth, Birkhead would advance on a wild pitch and Crocco would walk. This led to a Kehoe fly-out to right field and Birkhead would head to third base and score off of a Myers reach. The Dolphins still trailed 2-1. The Bears would answer in the bottom of the fifth where they tallied three runs to extend their already 1-run lead to four, 5-1. CSI quickly responded in the bottom of the inning. It all started with singles from both Marten and Ulaj. Birkhead would ground out, but it would lead to an RBI as Marten scored. This cut the Bears advantage to just three, 5-2. Both teams wouldn't scratch in the final innings and Bloomfield went on to win 5-2.
