Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island faced off against the Griffins today in Philadelphia. They split the games verse Chestnut Hill College. They blew out the Griffins in the first game, 15-1, but fell in game two, 13-5. Today's matchup puts CSI at 6-8 on the season, as the opposing Griffins improve to 8-10 overall.
KEY MOMENTS
Game 1
The Dolphins put together their best inning of the season to start things off with Chestnut Hill. It was all sparked by a homer to center field by
Jake Myers. Following that, after a Marten walk,
Shendi Ulaj would single through the right side. With bases loaded, Gardner would single for an RBI as Castiglione would score, and a Cippoletti walk would lead to a Marten score. Things wouldn't stop there. After a Campisi walk and a Birkhead reach, the Dolphins would add scores from both Ulaj and Gardner. Later in the inning, Castiglione would double to right field for two RBIs as Santiago and Birkhead scored. To closeout this onslaught, Ulaj doubled to left field as Castiglione and Myers scored. This capped off a 10-run opening inning for CSI. After a hitless inning from the Griffins, CSI would pick up right where they left off with two runs in the top of the second. Behind a Santiago single to right center, and a Myers walk, Castiglione would reach first on a dropped fly and Myers and Santiago would score. The Dolphins led 12-0. After a quiet third inning from both squads, CSI would tack on another run in the top of the fourth behind a Castiglione ground out that would help Birkhead score. CSI would take a 13-0 advantage. The Griffins would be held runless by
Ryan Kehoe until the bottom of the seventh, but not before CSI added on two more runs. A Marten double to right center helped Castiglione score, and a Crocco ground out to second base led to a score from Marten. Chestnut Hill's sole run of the game would come in the bottom of the final inning as CSI won with ease, 15-1.
Game 2
The Griffins came out on fire. They put together five runs throughout the first three innings as CSI wouldn't scratch until the top of the fourth. The sole run in that inning came after a Castiglione single to left field would lead to an Ulaj single through the right side in which Castiglione scored. The Dolphins trailed 5-1. In the top of the fifth, CSI would not things at five runs apiece. This was sparked by a Sutera fly-out to right field. Campisi would advance to second off of a Myers single through the right side, and he would score thanks to a Castiglione single to left center. After walks from both Marten and Ulaj, Myers scored, 5-3. To close the inning, a Gardner reach on a throwing error would lead to scores from both Marten and Castiglione. Unfortunately for CSI, a seven-run bottom of the sixth by the Griffins would prove to be too much to overcome. Chestnut Hill bounced back with a 13-5 victory.
