DOLPHINS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST CALDWELL UNIVERSITY

Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island faced off against the Cougars today in Caldwell, NJ. In their first doubleheader since their six-game slate the Cal Ripken Experience, the Dolphins split the games against Caldwell University. They fell in the first game, 4-1, but bounced back in game two for a 5-2 victory. Today's games put CSI at 4-4 on the season, as the opposing Cougars fall to 1-1 overall.

KEY MOMENTS

Game 1
Caldwell got on the board early as they converted on a total of three runs throughout the first two innings. CSI was held hitless until the top of the third when Jake Myers and Domenick Castiglione both singled to center field as the Dolphins converted on two hits in the inning. The Cougars would extend their advantage in the bottom of the fifth as they tallied two hits and one run. They would lead 4-0. The Dolphins would score their sole run of the game in the top of the seventh. This was sparked by a Nick Cippoletti double to center field. Behind a Myers ground out to second and a Pat Gardner ground out to first, Cippoletti would score. CSI went on to lose 4-1.

Game 2
The Cougars would get off to a good start by once again putting a run on the board In the first. The Dolphins would answer as they tacked two on in the top of the third. This was started as Gardner was walked and Michael Crocco advanced on a wild pitch. Castiglione singled up the middle leading to an RBI with scores from both Crocco and Gardner. The Cougars responded with a run in the bottom of the third to knot the game at two runs apiece. CSI would make a final push in the top of the seventh inning where they rattled off two hits and three runs. This culminated from a double to right field from Anthony Sutera and a Myers walk. Myers would steal second and Sutera would score off of a throwing error. A Nick Campisi single to center field would lead to an RBI as Myers scored. Finally, after Gardner and Crocco grounded out, Castiglione would land on first and Campisi would score, giving the Dolphins a three-run advantage. Caldwell would go hitless in their chance to respond, and CSI would win 5-2.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 

Game 1
CSI tallied one run, six hits, and two errors in the game. Domenick Castiglione went 2-for-3 with one walk. Angel Santiago went 1-for-2. Cippoletti would go 1-for-3 with a double leading to a run. Pitchers Kevin Ryan and Brandon Laino combined for eight total strikeouts in the contest. Caldwell finished the game with four runs, 11 hits, and no errors.

Game 2
CSI tallied five runs, five hits, and no errors in the game. Sutera went 1-for-3 with a double and a run. Myers was good for a 1-for-2 outing as he also doubled. Campisi went 1-for-2 in the contest with a run and an RBI. Pitchers Ryan Kehoe and John Esposito combined for six strikeouts in the game. Caldwell finished the contest with two runs, six hits, and two errors.

DOLPHIN OF THE GAME

Game 1
The Dolphin of the Game goes to Nick Cippoletti. He registered a 1-for-3 performance for one double and one run. He added two catches, one putout, and one assist in CSI's loss.

Game 2
The Dolphin of the Game goes to John Esposito. He picked up the win as he was good for three strikeouts in his four innings of play. He also added two catches and two assists in CSI's victory.
