Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island faced off against the Knights today in the first of a three-game set against them. The Dolphins dropped a tough one to Queens College in a matchup that went to extra innings of play, 6-4. Today's game puts CSI at 7-15 (1-6 ECC) on the season, as the opposing Knights improve to 13-9 (7-0 ECC) overall.
KEY MOMENTS
Queens College got off to a strong start as they tacked on a sole run in the top of the second inning to break the seal. They led 1-0. CSI would respond with back-to-back innings of two runs apiece. This was all sparked by a Cipolletti single and a Birkhead fly-out to left field. Campisi would then single through the right side and Myers flied one out to centerfield.
Domenick Castiglione would reach on a throwing error by third base which led to two RBIs as Campisi and Cipolletti scored. The Dolphins would lead 2-1. After a no-hit inning by the Knights, CSI continued their run in the bottom of the fourth. A Collica single to center field set up singles from both Gardner and Santiago which led to an RBI as Collica scored. Cipolletti's reach on a fielder's choice would mean another RBI as Gardner scored. The Dolphins took a commanding 4-1 lead. Both teams would be run-less through the fifth to eight innings until the Knights would knot the contest at 4 runs apiece behind a three-run ninth inning. Queens College would close it out in extra innings with CSI not being able to respond to their two runs. The Knights won in the 10
th inning, 6-4.
