WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS 2022 SEASON-OPENER TO FRANKLIN PIERCE, 3-0

New Haven, CT - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team fell in their 2022 season-debut earlier today as they dropped their match with Franklin Pierce University by a score of 3-0.  The Dolphins trailed by just one goal at halftime, but CSI was held without a shot attempt in the second half as they begin their season 0-1.  The Ravens would add two more goals following the intermission, and the three-goal victory earned FPU their first win of the season as they moved to 1-0.

After the two teams exchanged shot attempts during the opening minutes of the match, the Ravens began to take control of the game around the ten-minute mark of the first half.  However, it wasn't until the thirty-ninth minute that FPU finally broke through with the first goal.  Following a quick through ball off of a free kick from Olivia Jones, Mollie Cahalane beat Dolphins goalkeeper Brianna Dore to give the Ravens a 1-0 advantage that they took into the intermission.

Ahead by a goal, FPU didn't waste any time adding to their lead at the start of the second half.  Less than ninety seconds after play resumed, Jasmine Perez-Acosta would score on a penalty kick to put her team in front by two.  Cahalane would then score for the second time sixteen minutes later to put the game away.

In a game where the Dolphins were without a shot attempt for the final forty-five minutes, Barbara Serrano led the way for CSI with two, neither of which was on goal.  Kolleen Rodriguez, Caitlyn Burns, and Adriana Melgar each added one shot on goal to account for the five CSI scoring chances.  Dore had seven saves in net for CSI and spent much of the game handling the pressure of 20 FPU shots and 11 corners.

The Dolphins will next be in action this Sunday when they will once again take the pitch in New Haven for a matchup with Southern Connecticut State University.  The Dolphins and Owls will kick off at 5:00 PM.
