WOMEN’S SOCCER HELD SCORELESS IN SECOND STRAIGHT DEFEAT, 2-0

New Haven, CT - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team returned home yesterday evening from New Haven after dropping their second match of the season against Southern Connecticut State University by a final score of 2-0. The Dolphins and Owls were scoreless at halftime, but it was the damage done in the second half that earned SCSU the victory. The Dolphins fall to 0-2 overall in the early season and the Owls earn their first win to even up their record at 1-1.

During the opening minutes of the match, the Owls would record four shots within the first twelve minutes while the Dolphins would record their first shot at the eighteen-minute mark.  However, it was not until the sixty-second minute of the second half that SCSU finally broke through with the first goal.

Following a foul that stopped play thirty-six seconds earlier, it was Amanda Dustin who beat Dolphin goalkeeper Brianna Dore to give the Owls a 1-0 advantage. Ahead by a goal, the Owls built upon their lead in the latter part of the second half. Just shy of twenty-three minutes later, Kelsey Burr scored following an offsides call against the Dolphins to put her team in front by two goals, a lead they would hold the rest of the way.

In a game where the Dolphins were vastly outshot, Macy Jones-Busch , Kolleen Rodriguez and Jacquelyn D'Amico tallied a shot, but only one of those was on goal. Dolphins goalkeeper Sara Villacres had two saves in net for CSI during the first half of the game before Dore came in the second half to add five saves against seven shots on goal.

The Dolphins will next be in action this Saturday when they play their first home game of the season against Southern New Hampshire University. The Dolphins and Penmen will kick off at 12:00 P.M at Dolphin Soccer Park.
