9/24/2022 6:00:00 AM

Annadale-on-Hudson, NY - The College of Staten Island Cross-Country Team returns from a week off this morning when they compete in the Fred Pavlich Invitational.  The event has featured a men's 8K and women's 6K in the past and the Dolphins have participated in this meet every season since 2018.

The CSI men have experienced a good deal of success at the Division II level in this particular meet.  Back in 2018 as a Division III program, the Dolphins finished 11th in the field of 18.  In their first year as a Division II program the following year they finished 14th in the field of 20.  However, the Dolphins surged toward the top of the standings in the 8K last year as they finished 2nd.  Among the returning Dolphins who contributed to the second place finish for the men was Samuel Pope who posted a time of 31.41.6.

The CSI women have also competed in this event every season since 2018 including a 12th place finish in the field of 14 back in 2018 and an 18th place finish in the field of 20 in 2019.  After the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the women competed in the 2021 as individuals with Julia Calvo posting a time of 29.22.8 in the 6K, good for 23rd overall.

In last year's event, the men trailed only fellow East Coast Conference institution St. Thomas Aquinas College in the 8K as the Spartans took the top spot in the event.  It was a clean sweep for the Spartans last season as they took first in the women's 6K as well.  In addition to St. Thomas Aquinas, former ECC program the University of Bridgeport also competed in each event, both of which featured a field of seven teams.
