Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

PHYSICAL BATTLE BETWEEN CSI AND FELICIAN ENDS IN DRAW

Rutherford, NJ - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team played to a draw against Felician University this afternoon as the two teams ended their second-ever meeting a scoreless tie.  Though the shot tallies distinctly favored the Golden Falcons, they were unable to find the back of the net in a nine-save performance by Dolphins goalkeeper Sara Villacres.  Beginning in the second half the game became a back-and-forth physical battle which saw four cards issued, two of which were red.  However, the physical play failed to translate into any scoring and both teams moved to 0-3-1 overall on the season.

The first half featured Carlie Koziol on the attack for the Golden Falcons.  Koziol registered the first four shot attempts for Felician including the first shot on goal in the eighth minute.  The Dolphins attempted several shots during the first forty-five minutes, but only one was on target.  That attempt came in the closing minutes of the half off the foot of Kolleen Rodriguez and was saved by Felician goalkeeper Karlie Carbrera.  In net for the Dolphins, Villacres was forced to make five first-half saves, two coming on shots by Koziol and two more coming on consecutive attempts by Lindsay Whaley.  The Golden Falcons led CSI 8-5 in shots and 5-1 in shots on goal at the break, but the two teams headed to halftime scoreless.

The Golden Falcons put the first shot on goal less than three minutes into the second half, but this would be the last shot on target for nearly twenty-five minutes.  The second high-quality chance after the intermission came following a Dolphins foul which resulted in an Emily Albano yellow card.  The ensuing free kick sailed high, and from that point forward the game became increasingly physical.  A short time later, Rodriguez was issued a yellow card for CSI and both Emmy Eskridge and Macy Jones-Busch were issued red cards following an altercation.  Villacres made a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless late, but the Dolphins were unable to end their four-match scoreless drought and settled for the tie.

The Golden Falcons had a distinct advantage in shots 15-7, and in shots on goal, 9-3.  Following a very physical second half, the two teams finished with a combined 31 fouls and picked up four cards.  For the Dolphins, it was their three leading shot takers, Albano, Rodriguez, and Jones-Busch who received the bookings.  In goal, Villacres finished with 9 saves and Cabrera finished with 3.  After being held without a goal once again, the Dolphins will still be looking for their first goal of the 2022 season when they face Molloy in their fifth match this weekend.

The Dolphins will next be in action on Saturday afternoon at 3 PM when they travel to Rockville Center, NY to face the East Coast Conference rival Lions.
