GAMEDAY: WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CONTINUES CONFERENCE PLAY AGAINST CUNY RIVAL QUEENS COLLEGE

1/11/2023 10:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team continues a run of conference games tonight as they hit the road to face CUNY rival Queens College at 5:30 PM.  The Dolphins enter today's game at 5-10 following a pair of losses this past weekend and come in 1-4 against the East Coast Conference.  The Knights enter today's matchup with a record of 4-9 on the season and are 2-2 against the ECC.  The two sides have faced one another just twice with each team taking the win on their home floor last season.

The Dolphins wrapped up a three-game homestand with a loss to D'Youville University on Sunday.  CSI trailed much of the game, came back to take a late lead, and went cold in the closing minutes of a 57-52 defeat.  Queens last took the court on Saturday and faced Franklin Pierce University in non-conference play.  The Knights trailed by just two at the half, but they could not overcome a poor third quarter in a six-point loss.

Jenalyse Alarcon has tallied at least 10 points in three of CSI's last four games and continues to lead the Dolphins in scoring at 11.3 points per game.  She is also CSI's leading rebounder on a per-game basis and is tied for the team lead in total assists.  No other Dolphin is currently averaging double-digit scoring, but Elizabeth Lofaro, Kaia Johnson, and Kyra Rose are all shooting above 40% from the floor.  Rose has scored in double-figures just once this season, but she has scored 9 in each of the last three games.  Johnson also had her best game of the season on New Year's Eve against Adelphi, and Lofaro just recently returned to the Dolphins lineup after missing five games.  Chelsea Reeves leads active Knights in scoring as Cecilia Lapertosa, the team's leading scorer, has not played since early December.  Reeves also comes in the team's leading rebounder in Lapertosa's absence and enter's tonight's game as one of only three Knights shooting above the 40% mark.  She is joined in earning that distinction by Khadija Demry and Aalia Carlson.  In Queens' previous game against FPU, Demry led the team with 15 points, Reeves scored 13, and Carlson scored 11.
