GAMEDAY: MEN'S BASKETBALL VISITS FRANKLIN PIERCE IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY

1/17/2023 12:00:00 PM

Rindge, NH - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team takes a break from conference play as they hit the road for a matchup with Franklin Pierce University tonight at 7 PM.  The Dolphins are now 5-11 on the season following Saturday's win over Molloy University and the Ravens come into tonight's game with a record of 9-7 on the year.  Today's game will mark the first time that these two teams have met in the history of the two programs.

The Dolphins last played on Saturday at home when they faced Molloy University in their fourth consecutive conference game.  Behind what was perhaps their best 20 minutes of the season, the Dolphins pulled away from Molloy in the second half of that game to pick up their third win in conference play.  The Ravens also were last in action on Saturday against the College of Saint Rose.  It was a decisive win for the Ravens in that game as they picked up a 31-point victory for their ninth win of the year.

Messiah Mallory was key in the CSI win on Saturday as he scored 23 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and blocked 5 shots.  Mallory continues to lead the team in scoring and his performance on Sunday earned him an East Coast Conference Honor Roll spot for the past week of action.  Jordan McAllister has also made a big impact in a brief time with the Dolphins and is averaging nearly 15 points per game in just 25 minutes.  Bryce Waterman and Luis Armas continue to provide the Dolphins with consistency from the outside as both continue to shoot above 38% from beyond the arc.  Multiple-time ECC Rookie of the Week JJ Chestnut also remains very efficient from the field on the year shooting above 46%, a mark that only trails McAllister and Mallory.

The Dolphins enter tonight's game with five players averaging at least 10 points per game, but the Ravens are not far behind with four double-digit scorers.  Mohamed Traore leads the way with 12.8 points per game and is also among the team's leading rebounders with just shy of 5 per game.  Sean Bresnan, Brandon Kolek, and Sean Trumper are all averaging above the 10-point mark as well and each is shooting over 42% from the field.  Bresnan and Trumper are also the team's two leading rebounders with each averaging right around 5 rebounds per game.  In terms of shootings, the Ravens come in with shooting number nearly indentical to those of CSI.  FPU enters tonight's game shooting 43% from the floor and 36% from three-point range.
