DOLPHINS NOW FACING MUST-WIN SEASON FINALE WITH LOSS TO SAINTS, 6-2

Buffalo, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team now faces a must-win situation going into their final conference match next week as they fell out of the final ECC playoff spot with a 6-2 loss against the D'Youville University Saints.  The Dolphins fall to 4-5-4 with the loss, and they finish the day one point behind Queens for the final ECC playoff position at 2-4-1 in conference play.  The Saints improve to 4-6-3 overall and gain control over their playoff fate with a 3-2-1 conference record.  The all-time series between the two teams is now even at 1-1-1.

The two teams combined for 12 shots in the first but neither side was able to register the game's first goal.  However, the Saints maintained constant attacking pressure as 7 of their 8 shots were on target.  CSI also put 3 of their 4 shots on goal during the first 45 minutes but the game would ultimately reach halftime scoreless.

The second half saw both teams drastically increase the shot output and the result was a second half which saw the two teams combine for eight goals.  The Saints opened the scoring just over five minutes into the second half when Abby Nowak scored for the first time this season to give her team the lead.  Ella Hurrle then scored her fourth of the year in the 67th minute to make it a 2-0 Saints lead, but the Dolphins answered seconds later as Juliana Carrara scored for the third time in her last two contests.  Following the first Dolphins goal, there were nine scoreless minutes before the two teams combined to score five time in ten minutes.  Unfortunately for the Dolphins, four of those five goals belonged to the Saints and D'Youville went on to win 6-2.

With the loss, the Dolphins lose control over their postseason fate entering their final week of their season.  On Tuesday, they host Goldey-Beacom College in non-conference play.  The Dolphins then host their season finale against Molloy University on Saturday and will need a win to have any chance of making the postseason.  Should the Dolphins win, they will need Queens to either lose or draw to lock up a playoff spot.  A Knights win would eliminate the Dolphins and a CSI draw would also ensure that the Dolphins cannot pass Queens in the standings.
