DOLPHINS SURRENDER LONE GOAL IN FINAL NON-CONFERENCE OUTING AGAINST GOLDEY-BEACOM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team surrendered the lone goal scored in the team's final non-conference match against Goldey-Beacom College earlier today as the Dolphins went on to lose by a final score of 1-0.  The Dolphins fall to 4-6-4 following the defeat in their final match before Saturday's must-win conference game against Molloy University.  The Lighting improve to 4-5-6 on the season with the victory and remain perfect in three games against the Dolphins all-time.

The Lightning opened the scoring just 66 seconds into the match following a throw in and cross that found the foot of Miley Jones.  In the midst of heavy traffic in the box, Jones was able to get a shot off and find the back of the net for the game's first and only goal.  The shot, one of four for the Lightning in the first half, matched the first half Dolphins shot total of through the first 45 minutes.  However, the Dolphins did maintain an advantage in possession time and appeared poised for a second-half comeback bid when the game reached halftime.

After the halftime break, the Dolphins attempted two of the first three shots forcing Lightning goalkeeper Jennifer Mejia to make her first save.  Shortly after, the Lightning sent three consecutive shots off target before the Dolphins attempted another two shots that missed their mark.  With 15 minutes now remaining in the match, the Dolphins had attempted their last shot of the game.  On the other side, the Lightning made late push to extend their lead, but CSI goalkeeper Brianna Dore was up to the challenge.   Dore made multiple big saves in the closing minutes of the match, but the Dolphins would ultimately be held without a goal in the 1-0 defeat.

Dore finished the match with six saves and just the one goal allowed.  For the Dolphins, this season's effort marks a big step forward against the Lightning as Goldey-Beacom had won each of the two previous meetings by a decisive final score.  Despite the marked improvement over the results from the last two seasons, the Dolphins will still be looking for their first goal against the Lightning next time the two teams meet.

The Dolphins have one game remaining on the regular season schedule as they will face Molloy University on Saturday at 11 AM.  The Dolphins will need a win over the Lions to have any chance of making the postseason.  Should the Dolphins win, they will need Queens College, who leads CSI in the standings by one point, to either lose or draw against D'Youville to lock up a playoff spot.  A Knights win would eliminate the Dolphins and a CSI draw would also ensure that the Dolphins cannot pass Queens in the standings.
