CROSS-COUNTRY SENDS SQUAD OF 16 RUNNERS TO NJIT HIGHLANDER INVITATIONAL

Newark, NJ - The College of Staten Island Cross-Country team returned to a familiar meet earlier today as they participated in the NJIT Highlander Invitational.  The meet was the third of the season for the team.  It also marked the fifth appearance in the meet for the CSI men and the sixth for the CSI women.

Reigning ECC Rookie of the Week Jah Whyte set the pace for the CSI men taking 39th place for the CSI men in the 8K with a time of 27:34.5. Wayne Stephenson was about 40 seconds behind the pace set by Whyte and both Muhammed Qadri and Ryan Tierney joined them in the top half of the field.  Ethanael Elliott, Matthew Amato, Alan Bass, Ibrahima Diallo, Jorden Dixon, and Jamel Reynolds also competed alongside the rest of the CSI men in the field of over 230 runners.  Overall, the Dolphins placed 13th in the meet out of 29 teams.

Six CSI women competed in a field of 220 runners to earn a 18th place finish in the 5K event.  ECC Rookie of the Week Elizabeth Nicotra led the way with a time of 21:30.8 followed by Angelina Guerriero with a time of 21:50.8.  Not far behind that duo was Alexandrea Jackson with a time of 23:33.8.  The rest of the women's squad included Kafilat Yekinni, Deanna Leli, and Emily Matatyaev.

The Dolphins will be back in action in one week at the SJLI Invitational.  Next Saturday's meet will get underway at 11:00 AM.
