RACEDAY: CROSS-COUNTRY COMPETES IN HIGHLANDER INVITATIONAL COMING OFF THREE ECC WEEKLY HONORS

10/7/2023 5:00:00 AM

Newark, NJ - The College of Staten Island Cross-Country Team continues their 2023 slate today as they participate in the Highlander Invitational this morning at 9:30 AM.  The Dolphins enter the meet coming off a big week in terms of conference recognition following Sunday's Queensborough Invitational.  Wayne Stephenson was named ECC Runner of the Week and both Jah Whyte and Elizabeth Nicotra received conference Rookie of the Week recognition.

The CSI men have competed in the Highlander Invitational every year since 2018 while the women have participated every year since 2017. The first time the men competed in this event was five years ago in 2018 when they finished 16th in the field of 31 teams. This was also the last time they would compete in the event as a Division III program. Since becoming a provisional Division II program in 2019, the men have finished 18th out of 31 teams in 2019, 15th out of 27 teams in 2021, and 19th out of 26 teams in 2022.

The history of the women competing in this event goes back even further, all the way to 2017 when they finished 13th out of 17 teams. In their final year as a Division III program the following season, they placed 16th out of 29 teams. In 2019 they placed 20th out of 29 and in 2021 the women's side of the meet was highlighted by four Dolphins achieving the best times of their collegiate careers to that point. Like the men, the women also placed 19th out of 26 teams last year.
