Rockville Centre, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team goes for their third straight win today as they take on the Molloy University Lions on the road. The Dolphins enter today's game with an 8-15 record on the season and are 6-7 in conference play. The Lions come in 10-15 on the year and are 9-4 against the East Coast Conference. The Dolphins took the win 84-70 when they faced Molloy earlier this season to give them a 2-1 lead in the all-time series.
The Dolphins last played on Wednesday night against Queens and took a huge step towards securing a playoff berth with their win over the Knights.
Chris Velasquez scored a career-high 26 points in the Dolphins victory which saw CSI lead for the entirety of the second half. Molloy also last played on Wednesday against the University of the District of Columbia and suffered a seventeen-point loss against the Firebirds. The defeat snapped a three-game winning streak for Molloy and was their first loss in conference play since January 21
st against St. Thomas Aquinas.
Messiah Mallory and
Bryce Waterman continue to lead the Dolphins in scoring and Mallory came within one rebound of another double-double on Wednesday against Queens. JJ Chestnut and
Luis Armas joined Mallory in double-figures on Wednesday as well to give the Dolphins a total of four player who registered a double-digit scoring performance. The Dolphins have emphatically reversed their trend of poor second halves that plagued them early in the season and didn't trail at any point in the final 20 minutes against Queens. Darren Fergus led the Lions in scoring last time they faced CSI with 14 points, but he is averaging nearly 21 per game on the season. Fergus has also grabbed over 7 rebounds per game trailing only William Muller who is averaging 11.5 points and 8.3 boards. It was an uncharacteristically poor shooting performance for Molloy last time they faced CSI and they shot just 37% from the field, 5% below their season mark of 42%.
