Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOLPHINS DROP NON-CONFERENCE FINALE AT NEW HAVEN

West Haven, CT - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team dropped their non-conference finale earlier tonight as they fell to the University of New Haven 83-60.  With the loss, the Dolphins are now 8-17 on the season with two games left on their schedule.  The Chargers improve to 16-8 with the victory.

The Dolphins opened the scoring nearly three minutes in to the game, but the Chargers went on an 8-0 run from there to take an early six-point lead.  Chris Velasquez would go on to score the first ten CSI points continuing his recent hot streak, but his team still trailed by five, 15-10, approaching the midway point of the first half.  The Dolphins would only get as close as three before the Chargers closed the half on a 24-12 run to increase their lead to seventeen at the break.

Early in the second half, the Chargers would go ahead by twenty for the first time, and they would not trail by less than that for the final seventeen minutes of the game.  Velasquez continued his red-hot shooting the rest of the way finishing with a career-high 35 points, but the the Dolphins would ultimately fall by 23.  For the Dolphins, the loss is their third straight, and they have just two games remaining on their schedule.  First, they take on the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday.  Win or lose, the Dolphins will be alive in the playoff hunt entering their final game of the season next weekend against Roberts Wesleyan.  However, the Dolphins could still fail to make the playoffs if Queens wins their remaining three conference games.

The Dolphins will host the Redhawks in their final home game of the regular season on Saturday, February 25th.  CSI also still has a chance to host a first round conference playoff game if they win their final two conference matchups.  The Dolphins can do plenty to help their own cause in that regard as they play both teams they are chasing in their final two contests.  Roberts Wesleyan currently sits a half game above the Dolphins in fifth while UDC will enter Saturday's matchup with CSI in fourth.
